Me in my 20s ...what was I thinking about when they caught me in this Candid moment? I had to be like 24 or 25....feeling on top of the world but at the same time having the fear as most black men do at that age our days are numbered. We gotta live life as each day is our last cause it just might be .... Stay positive folk.... When things look bad at their worst we can always see it through..

The Carrier family circa 1920. In 1996 at the age of 28 I directed my fourth feature film ROSEWOOD. Was my toughest assignment yet... but the cast was amazing... working in Central Florida was an adventure ... snakes .. gators ..rain and mosquitoes! I did this film at the invitation of the survivors of this occurrence who then were in their late 80’s. The Rosewood massacre occurred during the winter of 1922 in Central Florida... sparked by unsubstantiated rumors a black man had assulted a white woman. The truth was there was a climate of racial and economic tension between the mostly white town of Sumner and the self sustaining black town of Rosewood. No official tally of how many black people died.

Congrats to my Lil Sista Taraji P. Henson for receiving a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This actress. Has always had so much heart and soul as a person and it shows in all the work she does ..... that’s why we love anything she does.
