When your daughter tells you to just trust her

“Time humbles all. 
 
The changes to my body are undeniable. I’m slower, it takes me longer to recover from injury and exertion, and there are fewer and fewer positions in which I can be comfortable. 
 
After so many hours spent witnessing impermanence – of a breath, of a thought, of a season – I’m not distressed by aging. When you’re young, it’s easy to look at an old person and think “That’ll never be me.” But this is a delusion. Everyone goes through physical changes. And everyone dies. This is the journey of human life. 
 
My training helps me face each situation with respect and to let go of my attachment to what is passing away. Taoism teaches me to age like a tree – shedding leaves naturally. Buddhism reminds me not to mourn them. 
 
Rather than letting age cast a shadow on my life, I practice instead letting it infuse my experience with a sense of preciousness for my present. My gratitude for existence is boundless.”
