From studying theology at the University of Cambridge to working with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Nigeria, Sarah Adegbite, MTS '26, came to HDS to explore the religious histories of slavery and the Black Atlantic world.

During her time here, she contributed to Harvard's Legacy of Slavery Initiative, served communities in Boston through chaplaincy work, and co-founded 300 Words, a student writing collective.

After graduating this spring, she begins a PhD in religion at Harvard, carrying that work forward.

Before Sabbi Lall, MDiv '26, arrived at Harvard Divinity School three years ago, she sensed a call to chaplaincy while teaching yoga and meditation. In those spaces, she noticed that many of her clients were seeking more than physical practice: they were looking for a space to share their burdens.

While working as a research scientist in biochemical and molecular biology at MIT, she had a growing desire to deepen her spiritual life and apply her research background to studying traditions such as Buddhism. All of these experiences inspired her to imagine an alternative path—one that would lead her to HDS.

By the end of her first year, Sabbi fulfilled her field education requirement through clinical pastoral education (CPE) training at @massgeneralbrigham, where she spent the summer supporting patients navigating illness and grief. Classes and faculty at HDS helped expand her commitment to both research and ministry.

Now, as she prepares to return to Mass General Brigham as a CPE resident, Sabbi does so with a renewed sense of confidence that she is exactly where she is meant to be.

Did you know that on the national level, there are just three ways for a religion to grow or decline? In this Harvard Divinity School course, Gina Zurlo and her students explore these trends and how they’re shaping religion.

We are thrilled to announce Professor Tracey E. Hucks has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, one of the nation’s oldest and most esteemed honorary societies.

A nationally recognized scholar of Africana religious studies and American religious history, Hucks examines the religious cultures of the African diaspora and their influence on identity, resistance, and intellectual life across the Atlantic world. Her research spans the Caribbean, West Africa, and the United States, drawing on historical, literary, and ethnographic sources to illuminate the complexity and enduring significance of Africana religious traditions.
