Talking to @zion_lioness of the @rastafariculturecentre about one of the issues emerging from the RasTafari Sistrens Reasoning Circle held 25th May in Brixton London. Women experiencing abuse need safe spaces. The centre can be one of those places....

As Afrikan Liberation Awareness Month (May) comes to a close, we gather some of those who attended Afrika Liberation Day events and reflect on the key messages and outcomes from the international deliberations. We are joined by Bro Imani Nassor from the Pan-Afrikan Congress Movement UK and Sis Yeshawa Selassie @zion_lioness of the RasTafari Cultural Centre.
Events were held in different cities in the UK and various nations in Afrika acknowledged the designated Day of 25th May. In 2002 the Afrikan Union reframed this day as Africa Day so we also explore the implications of this shift on our consciousness and our actions as nations, groups and individuals.

Despite the best efforts of some Afrikan leaders in 1963, before and since then Afrika Liberation remains an aspiration and intentionfor many, and opposition to this ambition coming from within and beyond Mama Afrika.
The alliance of Sahel states remain a progressive role model but yet, we have war in the east and war in the west!
So what are the origins of Afrika Liberation Day, designated as 25th May in 1963? Where have we reach since then and what do we need to do to progress our efforts towards Afrika's Liberation? Why do we outside of Afrika and younger generations coming up need to be part of Afrika's Liberation army?
Baba Emmanuel Amevor and Sis Elizabeth TraorΓ©-Andony join us to promote their upcoming event and break down the historical and present day importance of ALD and why we need to maintain its focus.

On #Glocal 8.5.26 with our guest @sibusiso.bristol we explore #Afriphobia and #Xenophobia in South Afrika and beyond. We also ask if there are any parallels with the UK election results from 7.5.26 where the Reform Party are predicted to gain hundreds of seats on an anti immigration ticket. We also touch on the importance Of #AfrikaLiberationDay 25th May and May's designation as Afrika Liberation Awareness Month. Missed the show? β We are joined by a son of Azania (South Africa) Sibusiso Tshabalala and Green Party Councillor for Central Bristol.
β οΈ As the disturbing stories of Afriphobic Xenophobic attacks hits the headlines again across the continent of Afrika, we ask:
π What's really behind these acts?
ποΈ What role does Afrika's history of colonialism and in particular apartheid in Azania play in the fearful sentiments we are seeing these days?
πͺ What role does state, organisational or grassroots leadership play in fuelling or quelling these misguided acts of violence and vigilantism?
π³οΈ Plus as the Reform party are expected to do quite well in London and other local elections, does this indicate a rise in Afriphobia and Xenophobia in the UK?
