Chicago-based DJ Duke Shin began his efforts in earnest, garnering his first residency in 2003.Initially in-demand supporting live acts like Nouvelle Vague, TV On The Radio and Saul Williams, his bookings evolved to match his increased experience on the decks, eventually including DJ luminaries like Seth Troxler, Hot Chip, Roman Flügel, Rebolledo, Lusine, and Moby, and the most beloved of hometown heroes, including Derrick Carter, Terry Hunter, DJ Heather, Paul Johnson and Ron Carroll.
“For me? It’s not the medium, but the story.”
A former music journalist, Duke was active locally for alt. weekly Newcity Chicago (where he served as Editor for the Club Section for several years), and nationally as a regular contributor for Resident Advisor, BPM Magazine, and Magnetic. In 2012, Duke left both music journalism and a 12-year career in film to focus on DJing. Fast-forward current day where Duke serves as resident/partner with underground upstart WYA Chi (with Marty Mars), whose past bookings have included Tim Sweeney, Derek Plaslaiko, Mike Servito, Eddic C and Rahaan. He’s also resident/partner of the long-running Refract series (with Merrick Brown) and founder/host/resident of the Goods Thursdays–which recently celebrated 13 years of weekly curated events. Duke’s passion for music, DJing and art includes educating the next generation, and he enjoyed leading a stipend-based DJ apprenticeship for Chicago-area teens for nearly a decade.
As a DJ, his distinctive sense of flow with selections and mixes often include elements of house, techno, acid, slo-mo mutant disco, IDM and more.

Somewhere in the in-betweens, sinewy and raw, is where we exist. To prevent getting lost traversing these soft spaces—or perhaps to get lost in the best way possible—we focus on beacons we hold dear to guide us. The selections. The mixes. The dance floor and its denizens. The space. WHERE YA AT? [See you Saturday!]

Merrick Brown’s journey began at a DIY warehouse rave in El Paso in 1994, a night that sparked a lifelong devotion to the dancefloor. Now three decades deep, he’s a Chicago‑based selector known for spontaneity, musical depth, and a groove shaped by the city’s legendary dance floors, moving fluidly through deep house, broken beat, UKG, electro, techno, and beyond, weaving psychedelic twists and unexpected turns into every set. Equally at home in intimate rooms or peak‑time chaos, we’re excited to feature Merrick “Never Generic” Brown, front-and-center this Saturday!
