The film we made had its World Premiere at the SXSW Film Festival. We had three screenings and at the end of the festival it was awarded Best of Texas. It was a wild ride making this with my friend Ryan Booth (Director) and it’s been an even wilder ride finally getting to show it.
More soon. All my love.

There was a moment a couple years back where I was heavily considering throwing in the towel. I no longer identified with my ambitious and creative younger self and just wanted to move to the desert and disappear. But, thanks to my good friends and family, that desire to hang it all up faded and I was able to find my love for music once again. This record is my rebirth. I was reintroduced to that kid who had big dreams and he pushed me to be more creative and curious than I ever thought I could. All The Not So Gentle Reminders is a love letter to my younger self thanking him for the life I am now lucky enough to lead. I hope somewhere in the midst of these 12 songs, in the midst of all the notes and words and melodies and colors, you can find a place to be cozy, thoughtful and possibly more curious. I hope you tap your foot, sing along with friends, find someone to smooch or maybe have a new favorite road trip album. Thank you all for all the love you have shown me over the last 18 years, six albums, four EP’s and thousands of shows. Wherever you are in the world please know that I am somewhere, right now, raising a glass of tequila and saying cheers to you, to me and to us. All my love.

I will be framing my first Rolling Stone interview.
Thanks for sending so many sweet messages today. Feeling all the love. And thank you, @garretkwoodward for sitting down with me and going through all the good and difficult human things as we talked about the record.

Watch and listen to @junkyardatx and I discuss my song “The Music Man” and recreate the album cover for my record “We’re Not Going Anywhere” on his very tall Land Cruiser.
Then, I’d love if you came and joined us at Antone’s next Thursday (5.28) as we put on a benefit with HAAM and KUTX to raise money for much needed rehearsal spaces for our great musical city.
Garrett T Capps and The Point will also be playing. It’s gonna be killer and I’d love if you came out to hang.

You know those friends you see out and you say “man we gotta do something together sometime” and then that’s what you say every time you see them?
Welp, this is putting those words into motion.
An evening of incredible songs, buck wild stories of the road and probably more one liners than what’s in the blocked folder of your inbox.
We’ll see you there!

Here’s another clip from a session I did back in 2014 with Ryan Booth for my song “Find The Light”.
My mother encouraged me in 2012 to write something hopeful as I had been, at the time, only exploring some hopeless themes. I’m so thankful she did because this song still remains to be one of my favorites.
It’s taken on new meaning over the years but still reminds me that I can befriend my pain and not just be bound by it all; that within the dark and trying moments, if I pay close attention and open my eyes, I’m still surrounded by light and beautiful things as well.

Here are some stills shot by Ryan Booth on the first day I met and hung with Leslie Grace. This was our screen test for the film STAGES (directed by Ryan Booth) to see if we sang well together or even got along. I’m glad to report, three years later, the answer to both questions was (and still is) a resounding “YES”.
I’ll never forget this first meeting and I’ll cherish our time shooting for the rest of my life.
Our film won “Best In Texas” during SXSW and this weekend we’ll be screening at the Dallas International Film Festival. If you’re in and around Dallas we screen at 1pm Saturday the 25th at The Texas Theatre. You don’t need a badge, tickets are regularly priced movie tickets ($15) on the DIFF website.
Come hang and see what we made. Much to celebrate.
