Double alum Kyriakos Baxevanis hosts a regular networking event for the local business community at his restaurant Nostos Hove called The Big Fat Greek Club, in partnership with Penina Shepherd of Acumen Law.

He generously offered two students the chance to attend the latest event. This month, Nhung Nguyen and Ekaterina Malakhova had the opportunity to hear an inspirational talk by Sam Thomas, receive career advice, and make valuable new connections.

What an incredible evening at the University of Brighton’s People and Planet Prize Final, hosted by Beepurple, the student enterprise team 🌎🎉

We heard inspiring pitches from students tackling real-world problems with bold, innovative ideas 💡👏

A huge thank you to our donors and business community - this wouldn’t be possible without your support, from funding prizes to offering invaluable business insight 💙

We also hear from alum and lead supporter Roger Cowdrey on why backing the next generation of entrepreneurs matters so much.

The competition was tough this year, with so many outstanding ideas - but we’re delighted to celebrate our winner, Product Design student Katyln Ojera 🎉

Her idea, DehyClay, is an organic food dehydrator designed to reduce food waste on farms in sub-Saharan Africa. She shares what winning means to her, along with a heartfelt thank you to our donors and judges.

How do you show you care when words aren’t enough?

For Brighton graduate Vix Fuller, that question became the start of something bigger❤️

After struggling to support a friend through a life-changing diagnosis, she created a gifting service designed to make it easier to show up for the people who matter, without the stress of knowing what to send.

Watch as Vix shares the story behind her journey from studying Midwifery at the University of Brighton to building a business rooted in empathy, connection and care, because sometimes, the smallest gestures can mean everything.

Meet Şeniz - the UK’s first Urban Beaver Officer🌿🐾

On Earth Day today, we’re highlighting a University of Brighton Ecology and Conservation graduate bringing beavers back into the heart of London - and building a career around the idea that cities and nature can work together! 🌱🌍

Şeniz is based at the @ealingbeaverproject in West London, where she’s helping lead the transformation of a 10-hectare site into a thriving wetland. Flood risk is being reduced, biodiversity is returning, and water quality is improving - all thanks to the beavers. 🦫✨

Her work sits between ecology and community - monitoring environmental change while also leading walks, safaris and public events that bring thousands of people into direct contact with urban wildlife.

For Şeniz, it’s about showing what she believes in: that nature isn’t separate from city life - it’s part of it 💙
