Forgotten Fragments by @blurstem is now out!!
Do yourself a favour and listen to this one front to back.. the tracks weave seamlessly between each other, and end up feeling like a 25 min long track. It’s truly beautiful!
Link is in our bios!
———

“I first started Blurstem as a side project to Elskavon - simply as a late-night piano improvisational outlet for myself. My wife and I had bought our first house, had our first child, and in that beautiful whirlwind time of life, I found solace in late nights on a quiet, felted piano. That’s where my first album, Among the Oaks, came from. Eight years later, I rediscovered lost improvisational recordings from those sessions that I thought were lost. It was like listening to something distant, and yet, so close, so familiar. The sound, the improvisations, brought me right back to being a new parent, and yet also felt like I could have written them yesterday.

Instead of simply releasing them as is - since, it seemed to me they were not meant to be simply as they were - I decided to take some of my favorite moments and use that as a canvas to create something new - a journey from the fragments.

Fallen Fragments is the result.” - Blurstem

“That eight-year gap is crucial to the textured sound of the album. ‘Leftover Notes’ opens the album with reversed piano plinks, and hyper-sensitive piano guts that creak and squeak with innate intimacy. Hues of melodies are inferred, but the lasting memory comes from a cloudy reverb that leaves traces of notes long after the mallet hit.” -Higher Plain

The latest from the upcoming @blurstem album is here - Leftover Notes/Eight Years

“The album takes simple, emotive piano sketches and expands them into something more: bathed in analog tape loops, painted with reverb-soaked layers, warped in time experiments, reversed, pitched, chopped, and repeated. Much like the younger version of Bartels who first recorded these ideas remains intrinsically connected to the artist he is today, the songs themselves are woven together—bleeding from one into the next, fragmentary yet whole.”
