Joyful Venus. Two colorways.
Ivory on pepper. Pepper on ivory.
Court Goddess first started as a line of shirts for a queer basketball crew in 2019. Botticelli's Venus, redrawn on divine terms, androgynous, going for the layup. In a drawer since. Back now.
Find Joyful Venus at the Arlington Queer Market@arlingtonrainbowcommission , May 31.
Before the online store opens, a one of a kind gift is going out to someone very lucky. Follow @tristanangieri.group to see it when it drops.

Most images are like words in a sentence, they carry more meaning and beauty in sequence. Anyone who’s opened a photobook knows how different an arrangement of several photos is from a singular image.

But the meaning-making of images seems to be less the domain of the writer and more that of the dreamer.
I’ve been journaling my dreams and I’ve noticed most don’t have endings. The photo sequence is like a sentence spoken in a dream, slippery meaning without end.

Here is one of my dreams 🌊🌗🌙

Recently, I went to the Indian grocery store down the street to buy some saffron for a fish recipe. After I paced the aisles , determined to find it with my own eyes and ability, I worked up the humility to ask for help. When I questioned the cashier, he pulled out this small ornate box from a drawer behind the register.

Saffron is worth more by weight than gold – the fronds are stigmas from crocus flowers that need to be harvested by hand. It’s a flower that is native to Iran, and 90% of saffron is still grown there. This particular box is from Spain, but it really stuck with me. Such a delicate spice is harvested by hand and ends up in a tiny box behind a cash register like some sort of illicit good.

This world is beautiful and fragile. Several lifetimes of study would not be enough to trace the threads which connect us to each other. I stood in my kitchen cooking fish and I felt like crying. There were real human beings cooking the same dish in Tehran while the bombs dropped, and I was acting out my parallel ritual of grinding saffron from within the heart of Empire. We are all the same people on this earth.

No war with Iran!
