I was born and raised in Leverkusen. This is my club. Both my dad and grandad worked for Bayer their entire lives. That’s the very garage I first kicked a ball against, that house is my grandparents house and that room is my father’s childhood bedroom.

This project has layers upon layers of my past and it was a beautiful experience to go back and see it through that little boys eyes. In a way he’s me.

Everyone who has ever played football and kicked a ball indoors has broken something at home. And everyone knows that look from mum.

It’s a memory etched into football culture across the world. One of those universal moments that belongs to all of us regardless of where we grew up.

But when you take a shared memory and run it through the culture of a specific place, it begins to take on a life of its own.

For Porto, that memory was reinterpreted through the city’s beautiful Azulejo culture - turning a familiar moment into something unmistakably local.
