This summer, New Yorkers are reading “The City We Became” by N.K. Jemisin. 📚🗽

NYPL and @publictheaterny are launching the Big Summer Book Club—the biggest book club in Library history! Join in on a citywide reading experience where New Yorkers read one book together all summer long.

Jemisin's "The City We Became" is a sprawling urban fantasy that brings together characters from all of New York City’s five boroughs.

Starting today through Labor Day, anyone with an NYPL library card can download the e-book or audiobook instantly with no wait. Throughout the summer, Library branches across the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island will host book discussions, giveaways, workshops, and more inspired by the novel.

The Big Summer Book Club will culminate in a special event with N.K. Jemisin and @allofitwnyc at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park this August.

Tap the link in bio to start reading.

Unbox some Ruth Asawa prints with us!

The Library's Wallach Division of Art, Prints and Photographs recently acquired two prints by Japanese American artist Ruth Asawa (1926–2013). Best known for her sculptures, Asawa also created abstract prints inspired by nature, like 'Owl' (1965) and 'Desert Star' (1987).

Join prints curator Madeleine Viljoen as she opens up these beautiful new arrivals, which will be added to the collection and become available to researchers.

Learn more about the Print Collection at the link in our bio.

🖼️ Ruth Asawa, 'Owl' (TAM.1486), 1965; printed by John Rock at Tamarind Lithography Workshop.
🖼️ Ruth Asawa, 'Desert Star' (P.004, Tied-Wire Tree with Asymmetrical Five-Pointed Star in Center Branching to an Enclosed Square), 1987; printed by Tea Lautrec.

Happy #MothersDay to all the moms, stepmoms, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, mentors, and caregivers who shape our lives. 💐

Mary Cassatt is best known for her tender depictions of mothers and children, but her printmaking process was bold and experimental. The American artist continuously reworked copper plates, tested new techniques, and sometimes abandoned prints altogether in pursuit of the exact effect she wanted.

Discover dozens of Cassatt's works in the Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Division of Art at The New York Public Library.
