Bush β βLittle Thingsβ | Sixteen Stone (released November 1, 1994)
Everyone always talks about βGlycerineβ or βComedownβ when they bring up Bush, but βLittle Thingsβ is easily the most relentless track on Sixteen Stone. Released as their second radio single in April 1995, it got massive airplay but always seemed to get overshadowed by the massive commercial pop success of the ballads that followed. For anyone who actually prefers the heavy, distorted edge of the mid-90s alt-rock scene over polished radio tracks, this song is the definitive peak of the bandβs early catalog.
The track completely nails that frantic, paranoid energy that defined the post-grunge transition. Between Nigel Pulsfordβs screeching guitar scratch in the intro and the heavy, driving rhythm section, it delivers a much harder sonic punch than anything else they put out during the Sixteen Stone cycle. While the music press spent most of 1995 gatekeeping and trying to write the band off as a cheap Seattle clone, βLittle Thingsβ proved they could assemble a massive, high-velocity rock anthem that completely deserved its spot on the MTV rotation.
