Hvordan blir verdien omgivelsene våre har for oss påvirket av kontinuerlige endringer i landskapet? Hvilken rolle og agens føler de som bor i landskapet at de har? Hvordan forhandler vi tilhørighet og motstridende syn på naturens verdi innenfor moderne energilandskap? 
 
Dette er spørsmål som står sentralt i Ase Brunborg Lies utstilling Nimble Weavers. 
 
Nimble Weavers er også tittelen på det ettårige tverrfaglige samarbeidet mellom kunstner Ase Brunborg Lie og forskningsprosjektet ACTIONABLE ved Universitetet i Bergen, som har funnet sted i Nordhordland UNESCO biosfæreområde. 
 
En serie lyttevandringer, forskningsintervjuer og andre undersøkelser har dannet grunnlaget for arbeidene som vises på Hordaland kunstsenter - gjennom hele sommeren.

Join us for the opening of Nimble Weavers, Friday 22 May at 18:00!

How is the value of our surroundings affected by a landscape under continuous change? What role and agency do local inhabitants feel they have? How do we negotiate conflicting values of nature and belonging within modern energy landscapes?
 
These are central questions in Ase Brunborg Lie’s exhibition Nimble Weavers.

Nimble Weavers is also the title of the one-year interdisciplinary collaboration between artist Ase Brunborg Lie and the research project ACTIONABLE at the University of Bergen, conducted in the Nordhordland UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

A series of listening walks and research interviews have formed the foundation for the works in this year’s summer exhibition at Hordaland Kunstsenter.

We are very pleased to announce that Inger Fure Grøtting has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Hordaland Kunstsenter!

Grøtting comes to HKS with experience from leading art institutions in Norway. For several years she served as Head of the Mediation Department at the Astrup Fearnley Museet, and she joins the art centre from her position as Curator of Mediation at the Kode Museums. In addition she has extensive experience as Head of Mediation for the annual group exhibition Høstutstillingen, held at Kunstnernes Hus, a position that also encompassed administrative work for the artist organisation NBK.

In her various roles in the professional art field, she has distinguished herself as an engaged, decisive, and inclusive leader and colleague.

Inger Fure Grøtting's professional expertise and broad insight into the cultural sector and Norwegian cultural policy make her exceptionally well suited for the leadership position at HKS. In addition to further developing the institution's artistic profile, she will be an important asset in strengthening Hordaland Kunstsenter as a sustainable centre of expertise for the regional art scene.

We look forward to welcoming her from 1 September 2026!

On Saturday 6 June at 14:00 Eleni Ieremia and Jake Caleb will give an artist talk at HKS!

Caleb and Ieremia are currently developing a video essay together, investigating a proposed plan to build a data center in Dale, Vaksdal in a former textile factory. The technological changes in Dale, both past and present, bring together many questions about labour, politics and rest that the artists have been previously working on.

Are you ready to get up early on Thursday? ☕️

The final silent morning writing session before summer will take place 28 May, at 08:00 as usual. Set your alarm clock, bring your computer or notebook and join in!

In June we’ll do an evening event, more about that soon…

Silent morning writing is for anyone with a writing practice (active or dormant), is free to attend and includes free breakfast and coffee.

The event series is initiated by Lisa Him Jensen, Anngjerd Rustand and Cecilie Almberg Størkson, three Bergen-based artists/art workers and writers who have formed a writing group together.

Welcome to the third Kitchen Dinner with Ase Brunborg Lie, on occasion of their exhibition and project Nimble Weavers. Anne Lill Stene (who runs @stenematglede) will be the chef of the evening, serving a medley menu of vegetarian dishes using ingredients both locally sourced from Nordhordland producers and foraged from the region.

Ase Brunborg Lie and Dr. Alicia D. Barraclough will give short presentations and host a conversation with collaborators and visitors about the Nimble Weavers project, its host ACTIONABLE, and the Nordhordland UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
