Deep in the throes of infertility, I listened to Matthew McConaughey’s Green Lights. I thought if his romcoms are a source of comfort when I’m blue, maybe his self narrated memoir could inspire me in some silly way.

So when he said these words, I was stopped in my tracks. I rewound it over and over again. I know it’s so simple, but it so perfectly sums of the feelings of infertility. I don’t need advice! Not from a stranger who got pregnant on vacation, or a well meaning relative who heard about this thing that works that I had personally debunked a year ago. Nothing even my best friends could say would help. What I needed was just one other person who was going through it too. I just needed someone who knows the feeling of doing everything right (and then sometimes trying to do everything WRONG since that seems to work for so many people!!) and opening up led me to those people. And every time, it is so bittersweet. Happy to feel less isolated, heartbroken to know someone else feels these same feelings.

So to all of my friends out there going through it, whether openly or in silence, just a reminder that you are not alone!! And if you’re on the fence about opening up, it just may be the thing that saves you. It was for me 🧡
