Over the years, movement turned into a practice.

This carousel pulls out a short section of my blog for Counterpoints Arts’ Learning Strand. Small note: these parts were written quite a while ago, and I am sharing them now exactly as they were, without edits for readability - that was intentional. I am posting it today, on my sister’s birthday, because so much of my political awareness began with her.
-
For me, creative health is not “art therapy” and not a replacement for clinical support. It is about creativity and community as basic human needs, and about building agency, connection and dignity in sanctuary spaces.
-
The full blog, “Enti Masreya Walla Egyptian? (إنتي مصرية ولا إيجيبشن)”, is linked in my bio.

Summer 2026 marks an exciting moment for Allies in Exile as the film begins its international festival and screening journey.

From its UK Premiere at Sheffield DocFest (@sheffdocfest ) to special events in BFI Southbank, London (@britishfilminstitute), screenings in The beehive(@melissa_network) Athens in Greece, and the Malburne Documentary Film Festival (@mdffest) in Australia, the film will be shared with audiences, media, filmmakers, and communities across multiple cities.

We are grateful to our festival partners, collaborators, and supporters who continue to help bring this story to new audiences around the world.

You could say I am chronically confused… in the best way.

This first carousel shares some of the backstory from a new blog I wrote for Counterpoints Arts’ Learning Strand:
• A family line of Egyptian music and art
• Growing up between Belgium, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and Singapore
• Feeling “more Egyptian” as a child
• Losing and negotiating languages

It is an attempt to answer, very imperfectly:
“Enti Masreya, walla Egyptian?”

You can read the full piece, “Enti Masreya Walla Egyptian? (إنتي مصرية ولا إيجيبشن)”, via the link in my bio.

Come and join us for a celebration of the second year of our proud partnership and collaboration with @counterpointsarts and @refugeeweekuk .

COURAGE is an exhibition presenting a diverse range of photographic responses produced by MA Photography @ku.ksa.photography students at @kingston.school.of.art , exploring the topics of migration and displacement.

This exhibition is part of a project that originated through a live brief module, developed in partnership with @refugeeweekuk and @counterpointsarts.

This module, invites MA Photography students at Kingston School of Art to research, engage with and respond to the topic of migration and displacement.

Drawing on a wide range of research and photographic approaches, from courageous family histories and personal archives, to Sugimoto-inspired abstract seascapes reflecting on the politicised realities of migration and sea crossings, these works speak to the insights, sensitivities, and personal growth that emerged as students engaged with this vital, challenging and pressing topic.

Come and see for yourself and celebrate Refugee Week with us!

When: 6 - 19th June 2026, 11 - 4pm

Where: Kingston School of Art, Knights Park Campus, Grange Road, Kingston Upon Thames, KT1 2QJ

Private View: Saturday 6 June | 1 - 7 pm
