Tiny Circus returned to base last week to create a new collaborative project at The Stew (a local community arts and maker space spot) in Grinnell, Iowa.
We passed the first day of our time taking about collaboration and how to work effectively in a group without a hierarchy and then jumped in to brainstorming and planning our animation for a day.
We recorded short audio anecdotes and thoughts from each other and edited them down to make the soundtrack. We animated a range of fun materials for the visuals: plants, yarn, paper, and water.

This is the groovy little animation we made, 36 frames, looped. It was a fun process and good collaboration! We’ll be making more of these, they feel perfect for a two-hour workshop. What should we we call them?Spinners? Kaleidoscopes?

Animating with makeshift at The Stew in Grinnell. We had two hours to make an animation so we all made shapes of color and texture and then shot 36 frames on our multiplane set-up to make a short loop. Fun!

A promotional spot we made for the Science Center of Iowa in 2015. We got to interview folks about how they thought about making things - as well as animate a winged blimp. We love the idea that all of us humans are makers!
