Gifting ritual from the ‘Nam & Scenes from my spring gathering ✨

Went back home to Saigon, stuffed my face and then my luggage with lots of special goodies you can only get at the markets. Cooked a special meal for my chosen fam to finally celebrate some spring sunshine… 

I am such a gin girl, so when @suntory_rokugin invited me to host a dinner, it felt like the perfect way to gather everyone around the table and enjoy the season with some regional food and colorful cocktails. 

After a brief return to winter, Spring is SO BACK IN NY BABY, so I had a blast decorating my dining room in bloom with fresh florals.

The philosophy of Shun is about picking ingredients right at their peak for maximum flavor, and Roku’s new Minori gin uses that to instill their lovely & delicate botanicals like melon, white peach, ume, ginger, gyokuro tea, and yuzu peel.  
Tay used the gin paired my food with flavor-forward, fruit cocktails - bưởi (real pomelo) gimlet, rượu mơ (plum wine), and a jasmine trà chanh. 

HMU for the cocktail recipes! They were so good 🫶

Growing up, I used to watch my mom turn a pile of produce into beautiful carved displayed - carrots into flowers, cucumbers into leaves… it always meant going the extra milefor Tet and that candied coconut, braised pork belly, stuffed bittermelon and RED ENVELOPES were right around the corner.
They only lasted a day or so and really struck me why she spent so much time on something so ephemeral, but getting older I learned it was the ritual itself that was important, marking the seasons turn with a simple meditative craft.

When I put on my first @anco.banquet , I also wanted to stamp it with a “one night only” symbol, and so learned how to do these carvings. As an immigrant far from home, I wanted to keep the traditions that brought me joy.
