An award by iF International Forum Design that has celebrated meaningful, independent design since 1954.

Our Cardprotector+ was recognised, and that means a lot to us.

Because this product started with a simple observation: the world changed. Cards became heavier. Smoother. Made of metal. And the original Cardprotector, the product that created an entirely new category in 2009, needed to evolve.

So we redesigned the mechanism from the ground up.

More grip.
A longer lifespan.
A precise auto-lock click.
Hidden springs beneath a knurled base.
Finished in fluted, recycled aluminium.

We don’t see this award as a finish line, but as confirmation of what we believe at Secrid:

A designer’s responsibility doesn’t end with form or function.

It begins earlier, in the unseen decisions that shape the systems deciding who is allowed to belong.

We are taught to recognise capability through speed, order, and sameness.

Anything that resists this rhythm is marked as insufficient.

But difference is not a failure of ability.

Systems are never neutral. They carry the bodies, the minds, and the values of those they were built to serve, and learn to disguise themselves as common sense.

To design with room for uneven rhythms, for divergent ways of thinking, for work that refuses neat measurement, is an act of responsibility.

Because when capability goes unseen, it is rarely absent.

More often, it has been designed out of view.

Using local waste streams and biobased ingredients, Omlab creates materials designed to eventually disappear once nature can reclaim its place. A softer, more adaptive approach to design, where restoration becomes part of the process.

Huub and Margreet were part of the 3rd edition of the Secrid Talent Podium and remain an inspiring voice within our design community.
