Catherine Birk and Kate Sherman in conversation on Birkβs solo exhibtion, ππ°πΆπ΄π¦-ππ³π¦π¦-ππ¦π³π΄π°π―, on view until May 9th at D. D. D. D.
Central to the exhibition is the video π©πΆπ΅ (π§π°π³ π΅π©π¦ π£π’π³π¦π§π°π°π΅ π€π°π―π΅π¦π΄π΄π’). The work stars a cast silicone bust of the artist, adorned with a large chin and nose referencing the enchantress Strega Nona, a modern folkloric figure particularly known for her housekeeping and cooking magicks. Embodying her roster of domestic icons, Birk melts and molds wax for another work, π©πΆπ΅ (π§π°π³ ππ΅π³π¦π¨π’ ππ°π―π’), as she recites recipes from the lesbian archive.
