This song brings back a lot of memories from our music tour in Java with @erasmushuis_jakarta

It was arranged spontaneously for cello with @wilowilo_ during a rehearsal break. Later on @rohalfhide (percussion), @emir.cello (additional cello, cuk & cak), @julienoomen (bass) and @bernadetaastari (backing vocals) also added their magic. 🙌🏼

WOODS is the last single before the album release, and possibly my favourite song on the album, for it's flow and rich, yet intimate arrangement. It's a dreamy, feel-good song about reconnecting to (your true) nature.

Armando Ello en Simone Berger maakten samen de documentaire ‘Stemmen van naoorlogse generaties’. Deze onderzoekt hoe oorlog, het koloniaal verleden in Indonesië en migratie doorwerken:

"Reggie Baay, Adriaan van Dis, Dido Michielsen en Sylvia Pessireron verwerkten hun familiegeschiedenis in hun oeuvre en kijken hierop terug. Vier anderen van de derde generatie gebruiken hun familiegeschiedenis op artistieke of professionele wijze in hun dagelijkse werk: Cheroney Pelupessy, Inez Schelfhout, Esmay Usmany en Robin Block. Zij geven een nieuwe vorm aan hun bewogen erfenis en aan de toekomst van het herdenken.
Laatstgenoemde maakte speciaal voor deze documentaire het live poëzie/muziekstuk ‘in de gezichten van onze kinderen’."

Armando Ello and Simone Berger made the documentary 'Voices of post-war generations'. With interviews, lectures and performance this film examines how war, the colonial past of the Dutch in Indonesia and migration still have an impact on following generations. For this film, Robin made the live poetry/music piece 'in the faces of our children’:

This landscape remembers everything. It retains shapes the way the roots of trees retain water. Their images trickle back into the world. The leaves exude the right colours. The wind carries our scent. This is what we planted. 400 years don’t disappear after an eruption.

We are still here, fermenting in this earth. In pits. Under ruins. In the corner of an eye. In ethereal echoes. In the faces of our children.

my blood is still warm
a strip of sunlight cuts
across my throat

there is a language
that is starting to dawn

some roots do nothing but dangle
and I am surprised by how smoothly the water
glides off them

I love the smell
of freshly departed rain

and how deep
my feet sink

I’m standing here

After that producer @rohalfhide , @julienoomen and I have worked very hard to sculpt each of these 11 dreamy, moody, happy-melancholic songs. With the help of many great musicians and artists, both in the Netherlands and Indonesia, that so generously poured their art and soul into it. To me personally, this album is about much more than my love for Indonesia or honouring my family history; rather than looking back, it is a way forward by creating together, nourishing friendships and sharing moments and ideas in the here and now.

7 juni | Pelita Dialoogtafel in Paleis Het Loo

Op 7 juni 2026 organiseert Stichting Pelita in @paleishetloo, de Pelita Dialoogtafel. Met als thema ‘(on)gelijkheid’ en een spoken word optreden door @robinblock.

Ook Paleis Het Loo heeft een gedeelde geschiedenis met voormalig Nederlands-Indië. Koningin Wilhelmina stelde in 1946 een deel van het paleis ter beschikking voor de opvang van nabestaanden van omgekomen verzetsstrijders en van officieren uit voormalig Nederlands-Indië. In 1958 liet zij een vleugel inrichten voor het verblijf van Indische repatrianten.
