Grassroots banners over the last year! Love to see them all together. All of these organizations do community based work in Kentucky and are made up of so many people I deeply admire and believe in.

A lot of the time our local crews are strapped for time and capacity, meaning art and culture can fall to the backburner. It’s been such a delight to bring quilting and handmade banners into different movement ecosystems, and put my time and energy into materials tools that bring in some joy and flavor ✨

Another quilt come and gone! Biggest one yet I think?

Number one reason this quilt commission with Seith was so delightful was cause it meant we got to hang nearly every week. Part trade- next up we’re gonna be building out a platform for the back of my truck!

Mega grateful to get to do this kind of work, and get to collab this go around.

Catch this quilt in ‘500 Miles Out: Carceral Ties Between the District and Central Appalachia’

This group art show features work about the federal prison currently being proposed in Letcher County, KY, and highlights the 500 mile radius impact zone around it. Live in that zone? Your friends, family and neighbors will be impacted if this prison is built. This prison has been defeated before though, so we can do it again!

Show opens May 2nd from 4-6pm at @rhizome_dc - if you’re in DC, please come out! (Or even if you aren’t in DC?)

@nonewletcherprison is a coalition working to stop the construction of yet another federal prison in Letcher County, KY. This prison has already been defeated once, so we know we can do it again!

Proposing to build a new federal prison in Letcher County is not just a local issue. BOP Policy is to try to house incarcerated people within 500 miles from their homes. If you live in the impact zone, your friends, family and neighbors will be impacted by this prison if it’s built.

Once this quilt is finished, it’ll be making it’s way up to DC along with work by other friends for a show all about the #nonewletcherprison campaign. Stay tuned for more info on the opening! And till then, throw down on some letter writing, and talk to BCNP directly on how to get involved.

A great place to find out more about worker owned co-ops and how Patchwork is supporting the growth of cooperative economies here in Lexington. + food, cash bar, live music, prizes and an art auction that these bundles will be in.
