A moment with a barred owlet from this spring. Showing off those big, disproportionate talons. Before they can fly, they need large feet and talons to scramble up and grip onto trees.

Revisiting some work from Raja Ampat, and Lenmakana Lake always stands out. Well worth lugging camera gear to reach this remote lake. Due to its popularity, visiting is limited to about an hour. Quickest hour of my life, mesmerized by the thousands of shimmering jellyfish ascending to the surface. When I finally brought my head up, the only recognizable face was my guide, waving me down. Our group had already left and it was time to go.

Florida springs strike mission with @billhawthornephotography

When you hang out with a springs scientist, you tend to learn quite a bit, and it’s incredible to explore these freshwater springs while learning more about their function, importance, and fragility. Capturing nice images is the fun part of the gig, but understanding what you’re capturing (attempting to, in my case) is the important part.

Also great to get out with @elusive_endeavors again and even @josephrickettsphoto spawned in. Great times.

What up shorty!

Quick stop at Kankakee Sands on the way home. These guys and gals will be heading back home soon so taking every chance I get to watch them do their thing.

Short-eared Owls 🤝🏼 Indiana sunsets

Lucked out this night as a pair of SEOs came out to hunt earlier than they had been the previous few days. One went down quickly while the other stuck around to let @cj.hemphill and I track him against the setting sun. Wish he got a bit closer!

Marlin action during the sardine run in Magdalena Bay, Baja, Mexico. 2024.

Digging through some old footage while avoiding the cold weather outside. Put this short edit together and love to watch the predator versus prey interaction as they dance amongst the blue.

Eastern Screech Owl

Been out to film mr popular a few nights now, but he’s sticking close to home these days. Only flying out well after the sun sets. Looking forward to things ramping up in the coming months as mating season starts.

Looking through the year’s shots and almost forgot about these. Playing with slow shutter on some red snappers. Fun way to mix things up 🕺

Wrapped up 2025 underwater filming Tigers and trying out the new @nikonusa ZR, and it did not disappoint. Loved the dimension that comes with the higher resolutions for filming wildlife. The new @ikelite housing is also 😮‍💨🤌🏼. This dive in particular has stuck with me, as the sunset brought the perfect light to set up and watch them cruise in and out of the reef. It’s incredible to share space with these animals and, over the course of a few days, learn more about how they interact with their surroundings.

Nothing strange about this crown jelly (Nausithoe picta) during some blackwater filming in Yap. These jellies are so fast (slowed down footage) and small, making it tough to frame and keep focus. Happy I managed to grab a few clips, so cool to see how their body works to propel them through the water.
