Over the weekend I joined the team @vsco for their sponsorship of @photoville to tag up with @jonfeinstein as he led a photowalk through Dumbo.

I ended up spending the entire weekend chatting with other artists, members of the VSCO team and shooting around the heavily populated Brooklyn Bridge. Here are a few selects.

Photography was not invented as a neutral tool. From its earliest days, the camera was used to classify, dehumanize, and justify.

In the 1850s, Swiss-American naturalist Louis Agassiz commissioned daguerreotypes of enslaved people, including Renty and Delia, not to document their humanity, but to argue against it. These images were made without consent, without dignity, and in service of a pseudoscientific case for racial hierarchy.

This is part one of my series Life Through The Lens, a look at the racist history embedded in photography’s origins, and what that history means for how we understand the medium today.

The full video is on YouTube. The full article is on Substack. Both linked in bio.

We’ve built a mythology around film photography, and most of it is getting in the way.

The idea that shooting on film automatically produces something more meaningful, more beautiful, more worthy isn’t really about the medium. It’s about the discipline the medium demands.

The finite frames. The commitment to a moment before you press the shutter.

Film won’t make your photographs better. But it might make you see differently, and that changes everything.

This is part one of a series pulled from my full YouTube video unpacking the misconceptions behind film photography from my segment Tools Of The Trade. New parts weekly. Full video on the channel now.

Link in bio.

Before you raise the camera, you need a framework.

EDFAT: Entire scene, Detail, Frame, Angle, Time.

Is one of the most powerful tools a photojournalist can use when documenting in the field.

It pushes you to slow down, observe deliberately, and work a scene with intention instead of just reacting to it.

This is part one of a full breakdown I’m releasing weekly. If you want to watch the complete video now, the full series, Crafting a Photograph, is live on YouTube. Link in bio.

What makes a photograph impossible to look away from?

@brookedidonato knows how to craft images that make our eyes linger. Teetering between the familiar and the fantastical, her photographs are carefully staged in real locations with minimal digital manipulation. Yet ordinary surroundings—white picket fences, cornfields, deserts, and sidewalks—become surreal as figures seem to merge into them.

In her debut monograph, Take a Picture, It Will Last Longer, DiDonato brings together the most extensive collection of her work to date. Published by @thamesandhudsonusa, the book is available now. Learn more at the link in bio.

Photography has never mattered more.

No prompt feels the moment shift. No algorithm waits for the right light. No one but you is behind the lens.

You are exactly what this moment needs.

See why. Link in bio.

This afternoon, here in my neighborhood in Brooklyn, a three alarm fire tore through an apartment building across from the local park.

As I stepped out of the subway nearly four blocks away, the entire street was already swallowed in smoke. I looked up to see thick black plumes stretching into the sky and knew the fire had to be close. With three film cameras hanging off my shoulders, I ran straight toward it, arriving just as the last of the flames were being knocked down.

I burned through three rolls of film before sprinting back across the park, crashing through my apartment door to grab my digital camera, then heading straight back out again. These photographs are only a small portion of today’s coverage of the brave men and women of the FDNY as they battled a fire that consumed three separate apartments.

This evening, May 6th, 2026, protest followed suit behind demonstrations outside billionaire paid MET Gala on Monday night as members of @risenresistnyc gathered on the steps of the New York Public Library with a show of force against the greed of billionaires that feed off the working class.

As well as a show of support for the working class, the demonstration was also a protest against the Manhattan Institute, “…a far right think tank that produces facist propoganda” says @50501ny as protesters marched to the Institute’s annual gala of billionaires.

Under cloudy skies and light rain, demonstrators gathered outside the Brooklyn Navy Yard at 11:30 this morning to protest Crye Precision, the tactical gear manufacturer headquartered within the complex.

Crye Precision supplies head-to-toe military and tactical equipment widely used by Tier 1 military units, federal agencies, and law enforcement domestically and abroad, including ICE.

The demonstration comes in the wake of a high-profile incident this past Saturday night, May 2nd, 2026, in which a Brooklyn resident was kidnapped and hospitalized following a confrontation between civilians, NYPD officers, and ICE agents that left multiple bystanders assaulted.

“We have an obligation to build the capacity and militancy to respond to and prevent these kidnappings, and to kick ICE suppliers like Crye out of NYC,” said @dbny.now_backup , urging fellow New Yorkers to make their voices heard outside Crye Precision’s headquarters.

What began as a peaceful protest briefly escalated when an individual emerged from the building and began antagonizing demonstrators. Shouting profanities and making his grievances known before retreating down the block. Organizers continued the protest peacefully following the incident.
