Roger Hiorns’ work, “BSE / vCJD” (2015) has recently been acquired by the Royal Academy Collection.

First presented at the Hayward Gallery in 2015, the work provides an artistic exploration of the diseases bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) and variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD), commonly referred to as mad cow disease.

Described as ‘A quiet accumulating worm, collecting the institutional materials of state failure into a newer form’, the influential work finds a new platform for its future growth at the RA.
