History lives in the stories we preserve. 📚✨
The Ohnick Family Papers, offers a rare look into the lives of a Japanese American family. From letters and photographs to records documenting life in Arizona and across the West, the collection captures personal experiences shaped by immigration, war, business, family and community.
The papers trace the story of Hachiro Ohnick, who arrived in the United States from Japan in 1876 and later helped found the company that became APS in Phoenix. The collection also highlights the lives of his children, including opera singer Haru Onuki, and provides researchers with firsthand perspectives on topics ranging from World War I and World War II to citizenship, identity and resilience.

Congratulations to ASU graduate Lainey Tsosie! 🌟
Tsosie (Diné) is graduating with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, with a minor in Spanish, from The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University. She is also a graduate from Barrett, The Honors College.
Tsosie has been a student worker in the Labriola National American Indian Data Center (@asu_labriola) at Hayden Library and helped the center to thrive.
"We've hosted so many events with writers and poets. We help students and faculty search for American Indian Studies and Indigenous resources. It's important to continue to invest in our students and give them a safe cultural space with the resources they need to succeed in their classes and in their personal lives. At Labriola, we’re about building community. It has been enriching for me to learn how to build community through an Indigenous lens, and I’m excited to apply it in my personal life and in my career," said Tsosie.
