For the past few months, we have partnered with Migrants Organise in an ongoing series of craft-focussed workshops.
Migrants Organise is a long running platform for refugees and migrants to organise for power, dignity and justice. The workshops serve as a way to extend our passion for craft and working with our hands; exploring the connective power of slow, intentional practice.
In this first series, @lobna_sana led participants through frame weaving, drawing on her research into Bedouin textile traditions and the idea of the architectural skin. Participants brought their own weaving histories (largely from Sudan and Eritrea) and the results were a beautifully layered set of objects made from shared knowledge and close attention.
Over the three months, we learnt from one another’s histories, shared the stories of our journey to London, ate food made by the wonderful Gafar, and came together to weave a personal textile.
Thank you to Elinor Kirchway, @migrantsorganise and all the participants for joining. Faces have been blurred to protect participants’ identities.
We are looking forward to the next series where we will dive into a new craft!

The process is never ending and the doors to the temple open sometimes, for it is important to have visitors and hear what you couldn’t see so far
Little glances from my open studio at @all____ears space of collaboration and magical creation (that opened for the first time!)
Thank you Jan for making it all actually happen @janstawiarski and for the documentation!
And @eros.matigrey for knowing what is a papyrus when u see it and for curating parts of the mess
For @arthur.boer that gave hands and advices and also a pomegranate
And to all those who made a little time to look and touch and smell and stay or ran away from my nest
Many special pictures here were taken by @mohammedmoharm without me even asking

‘Time is a Racehorse’ 2026
Oak, glass beads, ribbon, pencil, pencil sharpener
20cm x 15cm x 10cm
Make a break for it! Time gallops, time trots, time canters. Funny how a horse can feel these atmospheric changes, their legs a clock, their eyes two perfect planets. Is your time is the tension? The pixelation of glass beads, winking and whinnying with the day’s break? Is it fraying at both ends? Mine is the pencil that rotates, sharpening its point, conjuring seconds far more succinctly than any grammar could. Once upon a time; Time is a Racehorse.
