ActionSpace Spring Series 🌿
This Spring bank holiday, we’re revisiting a few favourite works by ActionSpace artists that capture the feeling of season.
Ali Kamalati's 'Space' combines washed acrylic, watercolour, and pencil, to create a patchwork-like pastel backdrop that blends colour harmoniously across the surface. Layered pencil emerges over the composition, introducing form and depth.
Ali’s work is intuitive, intimate and quirky. It suggests animated events, objects, words and landscapes that capture his extraverted nature.

ActionSpace Spring Series 🌿
With the late May bank holiday approaching (and some sunshine on the way!), we’re revisiting a few favourite works by ActionSpace artists that capture the feeling of Spring.
Cecilia Caulder’s (@c.c.caulder) 'Isabella Plantation Still Pond Richmond Park 1' beautifully reflects the colours of the season.
From the artist: "It was a bright spring day when myself and my family decided to go out early at 6pm to sketch this scene at the still pond in Isabella Plantation Richmond Park. It happens once a year when rhododendrons and camellias burst into flower creating this shimmering vibrant spectacular show across the pond’s waters."
"I felt the combination of vibrant popping colours; flowing movement of the shapes and forms really captured the vibrant energy I experienced. The medium used to create both pieces was acrylic gouache with posca pens."

Presented by @ActionSpace in partnership with @stanleypicker Gallery and Kingston School of Art PhD candidate Lisa Slominski (@slominski_projects) the symposium explored how practices such as Nnena Kalu’s are interpreted, supported, and sustained within contemporary art.
We’re pleased to share that the symposium webpage and recordings are now live. ⭐
We hope these recordings offer useful reflections and practical insights for curators, researchers, educators and organisations working to engage more thoughtfully and ambitiously with learning disabled artists.

Kwaga Sillingi | Colour Without End
ONE YEAR ON 🌟
This week, we’re reflecting on @ActionSpace resident artist Kwaga Sillingi’s inaugural solo presentation that took place at London’s @sadieshermangallery.
The exhibition displayed Kwaga’s dynamic large-scale works on paper, a product of her steadily developed unique visual language centred around repetition, layering, and bold colour. Kwaga’s works invite close observation, encouraging the viewer to first absorb their visceral energy and then engage with their deeper complexities.

What does meaningful representation in the art world look like? 🤔
As Artistic Director and CEO of @actionspace Sheryll Catto has spent years dismantling the margins around learning-disabled artists. Her work is not about inclusion rhetoric but infrastructure - building studios, support systems, and professional pathways that treat artistic practice as serious, sustained labour. Nnena Kalu, who is represented by ActionSpace, won the Turner Prize in 2025.
We are thrilled to have Sheryll on the selection panel for this year’s Annual Open Exhibition:
💬 I am excited to see the work submitted [for the 173 Annual Open Exhibition] this year and keen to encourage more neurodivergent and learning disabled artists to submit, as this is a fantastic opportunity to have their work seen and raise their profile.
