2026 marks a major milestone: A-Doc’s 10-year anniversary! Join us in celebrating a decade of our vibrant community in bloom 🌷 🌸 πŸ’›

Our anniversary logo was designed by our very own Communications Coordinator, @melo_gao_loveswhales. Read her inspiration for the piece below:

β€œA-Doc: 10 Years of Community in Bloom,” imagines nonfiction storytelling as a vibrant ecosystem that is inseparable from the people who sustain it. The design is a love letter to A-Doc’s journey, celebrating the past decade while dreaming of a future that is accessible, sustainable, and rooted in community.

The smiling house reflects the foundation that has been nurtured by our intergenerational community, planting the seeds for future storytellers. A canopy of chrysanthemums, cherry blossoms, and daffodils, symbolize joy and new beginnings. Centered in the design is a group of people reflecting and sharing, not isolated, but moving forward together. The deliberate inclusion of the snail represents resilience, and a gentle reminder to make time for rest. In an industry that moves rapidly, the film reel as the snail’s shell reimagines community as a home that you can always return to.

The bright shades of tangerine, fuschia, and chartreuse contribute a sense of whimsy and collective dreaming. As A-Doc looks forward to the next 10 years, this design honors the roots that connect us and celebrates the community we continue to build together.” - Meloddy Gao

About the film: β€œAn intimate look at inequality in San Francisco through the lives of Single Room Occupancy residents. Filmed over six years, it paints a mosaic of strangers relying on 80 sq ft rooms to stay housed and avoid homelessness. Their fight to break free from cyclical trauma and crushing structural forces is a universal story about the future of the American city.”

Join us this Friday and Saturday at the CAAMFest Filmmaker Summit and Industry Hub for these panels: The Creative Process and Successfully Short! 🎨 🎬 ✨

Friday, May 8, 1:30-2:30pm - The Creative Process: Film is an art form and creative practices can define our work as artists. In this pane moderated by @theresaxtine (Catapult Film Fund), we will speak with filmmakers @karlamakingstuff (THE GAS STATION ATTENDANT), @cocos.sanctuary (TRACES OF HOME), @windter24 (BEFORE THE MOON FALLS) to share their creative processes in the documentary genre.

Trigger Warning: Some of the films contain references to mental illness, sexual abuse, suicide, and violence which may be talked about during this panel. This conversation will conclude with a grounding exercise. We will also be offering mental health services in the Community Room for 30 minutes directly following this panel.

Saturday, May 9, 1:30-2:30pm - Successfully Short: CAAM, Firelight Media, and A-Doc all have initiatives that provide funding for short documentaries. This panel moderated by Pamela Torno (ITVS) will talk about some of those programs and feature filmmakers supported by them including @reaapuri (HARVEST PARTY AT CAMP TWO), @saritakhur (THE LAST RESORT), and @curtischin8 (WARREN KING: KING OF CARDBOARD) to help uplift short documentaries in a time when making features is more challenging than ever.
