Revelation comes in many forms. For the Lab/Shul team, it looked like a one-room town in Brooklyn called @townofhumorville, a lot of unhinged laughter, and some deeply thoughtful work. 🤪👇
We spent an afternoon together marrying ourselves, voting for what we care about, and tapping into some serious creative genius at Razor Studios.
The real harvest though, was the pure, unfiltered joy of playing together. With Shavuot beginning tonight, the timing hit perfectly because Shavuot is all about the summer grain harvest and receiving the Torah at Sinai; celebrating community, commitment, and showing up exactly as you are.
Our takeaway? Joy is a holy text, too. 🌾✨
We’re gathering up all this energy, inspiration, and small-town warmth, and bringing it straight back to the Lab/Shul community for the 5787 year.
Shoutout to the @jesterofthepeace for hosting our hearts & souls 🫶

Lab/Shul Families Celebrated Shavuot, deliciously! Lab/Shul Families celebrated Shavuot, deliciously! Huge thank you to every cheesemonger Torah artist singer dancer and player who made Shavuot FamilyLab: Say Cheese so special. An afternoon of learning, sharing, and harvesting wisdom—filled with laughter, connection, and more cheese than we could imagine.
This marks the close of our Family Lab programming season. See you in the fall for High Holy Days.
Grateful for this community and all we created together!

At Friday’s Sabbath Queen ritual, our Aleinu moment invited us back into the world with hope: a prayer for connection, responsibility, and a more peaceful future for all…
Lab/Shul partner, artist, and peace activist @giligetz shared reflections from the inaugural NYC Nakba Remembrance Ceremony modeling what it means to hold each other’s stories with dignity, partnership, and humanity.

In the messy middle, what messages do we hear out in the wilderness?
This week, as we enter the Torah Book of Bamidbar, our Spiritual Leader @shirakline reflects on the sacred in-between: not the beginning, not the end, but the wild terrain where transformation happens. Through the story of Miriam, Shira reminds us that courage, collective care, and sacred leadership can help us draw forth hope even from the hardest places.

🔔 PROGRAM ALERT — ReCollect/Yizkor: Shavuot 🔔
Thursday, May 21st
12pm ET
Online
As we journey towards the final pilgrimage holiday of Shavuot and the revelation of wisdom (Torah), we also acknowledge special folks we’ve lost along the way. What is the wisdom they shared with us during our precious time on earth together?
Ritual Leader @naomiless1 & our Kaddish Club I invite you to journey back with us to Shavuot, when people would gather seasonally in the mountains of Jerusalem, bringing the first of their early summer harvests. It was a sacred time of reunion, where friends and families traveled from different regions to celebrate together, make offerings, reconnect, share what was new, and rejoice as one community.
In that same spirit of gathering, remembrance, and collective reflection, join us online - on May 21st - for Recollect, our seasonal Kaddish Yizkor gathering on Shavuot where we pause the work, bring in Presence and aim to realize observations of poet Bob Dylan: Time passes slowly up here in the mountains.
When we gathered up in those ancient hills, we remembered who didn’t return for this Shavuot pilgrimage: The joys and sorrows of time passing. As Dylan sings, “Like the red rose of summer that blooms in the day, time passes slowly and fades away.” Memories may fade, but we can choose to hold them close, honoring those we’ve lost and staying present to those connections beyond the grave.
Lab/Shul’s ReCollect/Yizkor is a seasonal gathering to remember our loved ones, share stories, lift memory, and say Kaddish, the ancient memorial prayer, together. Throughout the year, ReCollect meets near or on the times of memory (Yizkor) on the Jewish calendar (Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Passover and in this month Shavuot).

If Lag B’Omer was the bonfire of the soul, Shavuot is the revelation that carries us through the night and into the dawn.
After gathering around the fire in song, mysticism, storytelling, and celebration, we now prepare for a heart-expanding Shavuot experience of live music, immersive ritual, radical Torah study, drag, magic, puppetry, and collective awakening.
At Night Shift: The Shavuot Show, artists, rabbis, musicians, mystics, and seekers come together to blur the boundaries between art and spirituality, celebration and revelation. As the night deepens, music and ritual invite us beyond division and into connection, where, as the mystics teach, all is ultimately one. Let the light of revelation dance us to the dawn.

Inaugural NYC Nakba Remembrance Ceremony Satellite
Friday, May 15, 2026
3:30pm EST Live Broadcast
(Immediately preceding Sabbath Queen)
NYC
Prior to Sabbath Queen, we invite you to join us and Lab/Shul Partner and event co-organizer, @giligetz, to watch the ceremony together.
The Joint Nakba Remembrance Ceremony is a unique opportunity to commemorate the pain and tragedy of the Nakba (“catastrophe” in Arabic), when in 1948 more than 700,000 Palestinians were forcibly expelled from their homes, became refugees, and had their villages and cities destroyed. In Israel, even mentioning the Nakba is completely taboo, however, @combatantsforpeace_english believes that peace and reconciliation involve a sincere and honest reckoning with this history that didn’t end in 1948 but continues until this day.
This year’s theme is “Sumud in Humanity”. Sumud—meaning resilience—is often understood as steadfastness, unbreakability, and a deep connection to land. Yet we believe Sumud is not the absence of pain; it is the conscious choice to remain human, especially when circumstances make it easier to dehumanize others. It is the courage to continue believing in justice and shared resistance when despair feels more rational. It means safeguarding our core humanity—dignity, compassion, and moral clarity—even when both history and present realities put it to the test.
Guests will also be invited to continue the conversation at Lab/Shul’s Shabbat ritual: Sabbath Queen.
