🎧 Dźwięk przestrzenny to dziś jeden z najciekawszych kierunków rozwoju muzyki filmowej. Hauschka (@volkerbertelmann_official) zaprasza na wydarzenie, podczas którego publiczność znajdzie się w samym centrum muzycznej opowieści.

✨ Ten projekt chcieliśmy zrealizować już od dawna. Niemiecki kompozytor i pianista Volker Bertelmann, nagrodzony Oscarem za ścieżkę dźwiękową do filmu Na Zachodzie bez zmian, nieraz udowadniał, jak nieszablonowym jest twórcą. W festiwalowy piątek w nowohuckim Teatr @laznianowa, występując pod pseudonimem Hauschka, wprowadzi nas do przestrzeni dźwiękowej.

🎧 Surround sound is one of the most fascinating recent developments in contemporary film music. Hauschka invites the audience to take place at the heart of the musical narrative.

✨ This is a project we have wanted to bring to life for a long time. German composer and pianist @volkerbertelmann_official, who won the Academy Award for his score to All Quiet on the Western Front, has repeatedly proven what an unconventional artist he is. On festival Friday, the @laznianowa Theatre in Nowa Huta will turn into a sound space.

🎹 Hauschka will play a prepared piano solo performance, the sound of which will be combined with electronics. With loudspeakers placed around and above the audience, the sound will start to surround us from all sides and it will create an intense impression of movement.

🌀 AlterFMF is presenting a self-contained, immersive narrative.

The music of All Quiet on the Western Front (2022), composed by Volker Bertelmann (also known as Hauschka), is a striking and unconventional score that plays a central role in shaping the film’s emotional impact. Rather than relying on sweeping orchestral melodies typical of historical war dramas, Bertelmann created a soundscape that feels raw, unsettling, and deeply modern, reflecting the brutality and dehumanization of World War I.

One of the score’s most distinctive elements is the use of a distorted, three-note motif played on a harmonium. This theme, heavy and almost industrial in tone, recurs throughout the film like an ominous reminder of mechanized war itself. Its guttural power contrasts with moments of quiet, amplifying the tension between fleeting human vulnerability and the relentless violence of the battlefield.

The soundtrack also blends traditional instrumentation with experimental textures—low brass, pounding percussion, and manipulated acoustic instruments that create abrasive, metallic timbres. These choices mirror the clash of man and machine in trench warfare, making the score feel at once timeless and unsettlingly contemporary.

Rather than guiding the audience toward empathy in a sentimental way, the music often resists resolution, instead evoking unease and dissonance. This makes the viewer inhabit the soldiers’ world more viscerally: disoriented, fragile, and constantly under threat.

The score’s bold restraint and originality were widely praised, ultimately winning the Academy Award for Best Original Score. Bertelmann’s work on All Quiet on the Western Front underscores not just the horror of war but the impersonal, crushing force of history itself, leaving an impression that is as haunting as the images on screen.
