This year we got in total 1197 works sent in from photographers and photo based artist from all over the world. We’re as always extremely happy and taken back in the huge interest in participating in our group show. Thank you, thank you thank you!

Now we’ll start the jury work and will go through all the works sent in. This year we had an exceptional huge number of high quality applications, so this will for sure be a tricky one.

A crossover from the physical, external archive of negatives and contact sheets he explored in ‘Dimma / Brume / Mist’, into his own personal, internal archive. The installation at Tabac is a small part of a much larger body of work Engström is experimenting with, involving materials beyond the photographic still image, and an expansion from beyond the book format and into more spatial presentation.

In the book ‘Dimma / Brume / Mist’, published by @photo_void , JH Engström is looking back at 35 years of work. Not with the ambition to present a “best of,” or to resume previous work or books, but with the ambition to celebrate the movements, the reflections, the attempts, and the doing. Every image was roughly scanned directly from the contact sheets. The previously unpublished images are combined with texts written by Engström throughout the 672 page book. ‘Dimma/ Brume / Mist’ is Engström’s 23rd photographic monograph, and will have an official release on Saturday, November 22nd at Studio Tabac.

Born in Karlstad in 1969, JH Engström is a Swedish photographer and filmmaker. His work has been exhibited widely and is in the collections of important museums. He was awarded the Leica Oskar Barnack Prize 2015, the Golden Letter (La Résidence) 2012, the Rencontre d’Arles photobook prize 2009 and shortlisted for the Deutsche Börse Photographic Prize in 2005, amongst others. Engström lives and works between Paris and Värmland, Sweden.
