Oh and btw...Alaska is freaking glorious...
Here’s a first look at the interior build. This shows the BENCH (with AC and Toilet), UNDERSEAT STORAGE, and HIDDEN TABLE. I’ll probably write a blog about this but below is a mini-version of my thoughts on the build.
-
💡GOALS: When first concepting this interior, I wanted an interior that was highly functional and seamless. This translates to multi-purpose items with an attempt to have a clean, hidden aesthetic.
-
🚽❄️LUXURIES : 2 key features I wanted was a TOILET and an AIR CONDITIONER to fit within this tiny space. I was very excited to be able to pull this off. The window ac unit is the smallest I could find and it mounts on the window when needed. For those questioning power, I have a @goalzero yeti 3000 which provides me enough juice to run the AC for several hours. (Will do a separate post on electronics and kitchen later).
-
🛠MULTI-PURPOSE: The bench itself is multipurpose. It serves as a storage compartment, lounge area, dining area, and sleeping for guests.
📥DRAWER 1 - Thetford portapotti toilet - Great peace of mind to have with you - All drawers were built on 250lb drawer slides so you could stand on each drawer if you like. Meaning, the toilet never needs to be moved around.
📥DRAWER 2 - Storage and “Stepping Stone” - In an attempt to add storage space, I ended up raising all the seating areas. This may make it a bit of a pain to go up and down from the ground, to the bench to the bed. So, I made a drawer that allows it be stepped on to ease the transition up and down.
📥DRAWER 3: - Plain old boring drawer.
📥DRAWER 4 - Air conditioning compartment. In winter, this will be used as a very large storage compartment for gear.
🍽HIDDEN REAR COMPARTMENT: Storage for the Lagun RV table and other large items. The table was configured to be able be moved into the corner so it can still remain out at all times and minimize it’s impact on the interior space.
-
🧰 KEY BUILDING MATERIALS: Maple plywood, aluminum extrusion (2020 series), and 250lb locking drawer slides. Seat cushions are cheap Ikea seat cushions that I cut up and horribly sewed together to fit hahaha

Which would you pick? 👀
Thinking about moving over to a Double Cab flatbed setup. Did a quick photoshop to see what a double cab would look like in its final form.
Go to my stories and vote ✅ if you want to see what the consensus is.

Not the most off-road capable, but it will get me to the camp spot I want…
Found a little bit of time in between jobs to head out. Was a good reminder of what I’ve been missing…
Scored a deal on some 2.5 Kings on the rear. It’s helped the wobble a tad. I need to stop being lazy and install my stage 3 Deavers and see if that helps even more. For those wondering currently on OME HD springs with airbags for support…

This road was admittedly a bit nerve racking to cross but was worth it for the views... I’m sure there’s a life lesson in there somewhere haha...
Roads that dreams are made of... ☁️⛅️☁️
I remember driving down this road often in foggy and cloudy conditions. Every now and then the clouds would open up allowing you to see the grandeur of the things around you. Off in the distance you could see the glorious mountains 🏔 poking its head out above the clouds as the sun lit them up. So many small moments that added to the surrealness of the journey...
My truck has not been washed in some time but looks unusually clean here haha 😅

Came across these photos of my old FJ Cruiser while digging through my hard drive. It was where the adventure bug began for me. I had gotten the FJ at a pivotal time in life. It allowed me to see that camping was not the crowded asphalt campgrounds I had thought it to be. To be able get far off the beaten path and envelope yourself in the outdoors. It was where I started saying “How cool would it be if I could do this for an extended period of time?”
