One of my favorite pieces I’ve created, based on remembering different moments in our life.

Whether that be sadness or happiness, you must remember the path you’re on, stay focusedand never drift off too far ✨

I recently got to teach 2nd and 3rd Grade students based off my painting ‘Oasis’ and this one stood out ☀️

It was hard for this student to complete her piece, but she finished and created the tree into herself 🥹

Afterwards she was so happy with her piece and told me: ‘I’m gonna put this in my room and look at it everyday before I go to school so I can be happy’

Just wanted to step back and reflect on this, because there is validation in purpose ONLY, and mine is to be that version of myself to any children that I encounter with @sab.creativeacademy

The little black girl in me was so happy to help another 🥹☺️🌸🌳

A young surrealist 💫

For her to create something like this was so specific and touched me because if you know my art and heard me speak on it, you know that’s how I portray us as Black Women 👸🏾

As we introduce Part 2 of ‘We Bloom through Paved Roads’ we will start by speaking on the importance of film and photography 📸

The 1st event will be a viewing of an amazing film by a Black Director, that focuses on an important part of Black History!

Film & Photography is such a integral part in how history is captured and we had the pleasure of working with 2 amazing artists Greg and Marcus on Part 1 last year🙏🏾

Greg is a great photographer that captured some pictures for us of places we highlight around Charlotte within our documentary 🌆

Marcus @basejeezus , IS the reason we were able to create the first part of our documentary, which just started as an idea by our director Simone @simoonnee__

‘Our 2 Sense’ is a documentary that focuses on the growth of Charlotte and how it came to be what it is today. It also highlights major Black and Brown neighborhoods that have been taken over historically and even today.

Gentrification is a closely related concept to Colonialism, in the way that it affects our communities close to us and internationally 💫

As diverse as Charlotte has become in culture, we need to focus on how we can support families here that have families across nations world wide, that are affected by atrocities🌍

The film will be extended and shown at the finale this summer ☺️
