We had the pleasure of attending the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County’s “Be The Difference” Awards yesterday to celebrate our community’s volunteerism.

We are so proud of the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Dog Enrichment Team and Sante Adairius Rustic Ales who were recognized alongside 50 individuals, groups, and businesses.

Since 2023, our Dog Enrichment Team has transformed shelter life for dogs.Volunteers designed an enrichment yard with water features and puzzles to ease kennel stress.Their hundreds of volunteer hours support our shelter that served 6,000 animals last year.They turn a challenging environment into a place of hope.

Sante Adairius Rustic Ales led by Adair Paterno turns a woman-owed brewery into a fundraising powerhouse.This special partnership with our shelter sparked the “St. Pittie’s Party” and beer labels benefiting spay/neuter funds.Adair leads with modesty and generosity, proving that local businesses can be a steady force for community support across environmental, animal and social causes.

Did you know Santa Cruz has Filipino food?

Yesterday the stars aligned and we went to two Filipino pop ups that keep popping up in a Santa Cruz county!

First we went to a house in Watsonville to try @sana_all_831_adobokitchen from the pork skewers to the pork and chicken adobo, to some of the larger lumpia’s I’ve seen, he had it all. Uncles in the back cooking it up, ready for pick up or delivery. Food was great, and everyone was so helpful and sweet in helping us make sure to get all the goods. Also they had fried banana stuffed lumpia that was delicious!

Follow them on Instagram to find their next pop up. Once a month is the goal.

Next we went to @rusticales to find @fafofoodsc . Usually there every other Saturday, and he has a combo plate of the most tender bone in adobo I’ve ever had. The chicken falls off the bone. He also had some salty dry rubbed wings that were awesome.

Shello! 🐚☎️

Our newest collaboration was born during a recent trip shared by friends and co-owners from Monkish, Side Project, and Sante Adairius Rustic Ales. Inspired by a hotel phone greeting that quickly became the unofficial soundtrack of the trip, one “Shello!” turned into hundreds, and eventually, a beer.

A West Coast IPA brewed with Simcoe and Nelson Sauvin hops, Shello! pours deep golden yellow with a light haze. Aromas of zested orange, white grape, and pine lead into flavors of citrus peel, fresh grain, and subtle tropical fruit, balanced by a clean bitterness and crisp finish.

Our beer is available now and in the coming weeks, each brewery will release their own version of Shello!, each putting a different spin on the recipe, hop blend, and label design. Consider this the group call!
