Saucony paramount max (SOCK-a-knee PEAR-a-meow-ntMAHXXX). In the shoe kingdom, the Maxidae family rules the land. Pictured here from the land of Saucony is a Max cushion Daily trainer (Dia del Exercitor).
The supercritical TPE ICREDIrun found in the ParamountMax is not the same exact formulation found in the apex predator Endorphin Elite v2/3. This mutation provides a less soft ride-experience in order to provide more stability. I intentionally did not use the phrase “firmed up” as this bouncy beast is acres away from firm. 43mm in the heel down to 37mm in the forefoot tells the runner nothing of it’s width. It’s not the size, it’s the girth. And somehow still the humidity that gets you.
The potential issue with fatty foams can ironically lead to stability issues if some of excessive spillage catches the pavement as the foot works it’s way through the gait cycle. (See also: The ASICS Megablast )
I personally did not have such an issue with the Paramount Max. For the ride, I have heard it described as soft but that is a word I would use more for The ASICS Superblast 3 or the NB 1080 v13. Instead, as a short king (5’6 - 145lbs), I found the Paramount Max to be one of the bounciest rides of the year. However. While the Paramount Max comes in lighter (277g/9.7 oz in US men’s size 9) and more bouncier than beloved Nike Vomero Plus, what it lacks is nimbleness and direction.
By direction I mean momentum. And by momentum, I mean the rocker. And by the rocker I mean heel-to-toe (heel strikers. It fails by over compressing/collapsing the foam in the heel. As my foot rolled through I got a sensation of having to overcome a slight negative drop.
The giant helicopter pad under the mid to forefoot is where the shoe really shines. As a shoetuber drowning in a lake of max stack shoes, I have quickly put 35+ miles in this shoe and the Hyperion Max 4 from Brooks .
If cliche was not so far beneath me, I would title this review, “The Vomero Plus Killer,” because every great shoe must be violently dethroned.

Brooks Hyperion Max 4 (BRUH-ks Hi-PEER-Ian mahXXX). In the shoe kingdom, the Maxidae family rules the land. Pictured here from the land of Brooks is a Hybrid species. One Super Trainer (Superi Exercitor) mixed with a Max cushion Daily trainer (Dia del Exercitor). Closely resembling in ride and appearance to The northeastern New Balance SC Trainer v1.
DNA Gold provides a slightly bouncier rebound than the beloved dull Brooks bounce. This thic bitch stands 45mm in the heel with a 6mm drop down to 39mm
In comparison, the New Balance SC Trainer was 47mm down to 39. Another notable difference is the upper.
Moving from a breathable mesh knit upper from the previous generation to a triple jacquard warp 🧶 knit. What this translates to underfoot is a less pliable experience. The triple jacquard paralyzes the foot, which then allows the rocker to run for the runner. Yes, this is a shoe that runs for you. That big beautiful golden bounce is mechanical and propulsive, cheater traits cherished in other shoes like the Alphafly v1.
If cliche was not so far beneath me, I would title this review, “Set it and Forget it “ a short story on a long run shoe.
Brooks is a company that barely works. All the characteristics and traits mold together for a pleasant experience. But from generation to generation, change a few As and Ts, some Cs and Gs, and you end up with a whole nother animal (see: Glycernin Max ((SLYTHER-in mahXXX)).
I had hopes and still do for a true super trainer, with the weight being the only thing holding this shoe back (10.2oz in my men’s US size 9). But ultimately my take on the Hyperion Max 3 still holds true for v4. Sometimes failed Super Trainers make for the best max cushion daily trainers

Retiring the channel right now would be the ultimate incomplete run (Strava tax). My youngest asked me if I had a silver play button yet. I told him I was very close to a bronze and only 468 million or so subscribers behind Mr. Beast. He was very impressed, which of course is the only reason I made the channel.
In all seriousness, this was made just to scratch my insistent creative itch. The numbers don’t really mean anything (but people do). I appreciate anyone bored enough to give it a shot. Apologies to my wife for all the 2nd hand cringe. Can’t say you didn’t sign up for

Couldn't be more proud of the Stride & Shine squad making so much noise in 2026. 8 Runners. 8 PRs. And yes, I am including myself though I just did hire a coach.
1. Jen Piazza ran a 1:35:06 in the Houston Half, a PR of 2 minutes and 18 seconds. This comes after an over 4 minute PR working together last year at the half distance and a 15min course PR at NYC on her 10th time running it. We are excited to translate this into a "flatter than NYC" marathon PR attempt.
2) Mo Liddy! A fellow midlife runner who hired me last year to go sub 3 in Berlin. Despite training in the summer heat, Berlin proved to be too hot to risk it. Mo joined the sub 3 club, a lifetime achievement, at the Buckeye Marathon. Something about round numbers is always just a little more exciting. Next up is to smash a 10K PR.
3) Nick Whatley's runway to the Houston Marathon was like the movie Final Destination. Everything was out to get him but not only did he survive every major illness, he negative split his first marathon, ran under the A goal of 3:30 and achieved his dream of running a marathon faster than George Bush. Nick is just getting started.
4) Ya boi ran a 2:50:17. I have a lot to say about that in the next video coming out Friday. A PR, nonetheless.
5) Chris Nwabueze (all the way left in the Austin photo) ran a PR at the Austin International half 1:26. We have only been working together for a few weeks so I am taking .032% credit for it.
6) Essenam Bruce - ran a 1:41:00 AND took a bathroom break around mile 9. His first half marathon. Dude has WHEELS
7) Quint Tatro - ran a 1:29:58. Sub 90! On his way to Spring BQ.2. Quint ran the Fall BQ.2 in 3:10 and some change and missed the Boston cut off by seconds. So, Austin is handing the baton to our next marathon block.
8) Lastly, fellow midlifer Dave Shumway ran a 1:51:58 at the Austin International Half. This was his second time running it. Last year he ran a 2:14:38. That's a 22 min 38 second improvement ya'll.

Houston Marathon ii: Two years later. While not the same fierce effort as Take 1,a 12 minutes 7 second improvement.
I learned so much from this one - about the marathon and about myself. Can’t wait to share over on YT much later this week after an Epson salt bath and a trip to Cane’s
Shout out to my Stride &Shine Runners Mo Liddy, fellow midlifer joining the sub 3 club. @nickwhatley negative splitting his first marathon cracking 3:30, and Jen Piazza running a half PR by a couple minutes, improving on a 4 min half PR as a tune up to NyC. 🗽
Marathons always make me feel so grateful for everything and everyone. It’s some of the better parts of humanity and that is certainly welcome #runhou

The time has come to host my first shake out run. I will do my best not to get us lost. If there are any locals who are also pretty good around an oval, please take the lead.
I set it at 1030am so everyone can get some great sleep the night before the night before the night before, or however the saying goes. I'll get there at 10am and then we can set off at 1030

The road to 1000 continues. 8 more today in the taper for the Houston Marathon. The legend continues. While the max comfort in the heel died somewhere between 750-780 miles, there is still some good rebound off the midfoot. In fact, I’ve had this shoe for so long, my form has changed. I used to be a heel striker and now am a midfoot striker. Unfortunately, I am still the same height. Apologies to my wife. But then again she knew the terms and conditions when we got married .
Anyway, shout out to @adidasrunning for changing lives. For the first 18 months, I was in disbelief how anyone could take this shoe for a fast marathon (@kofuzi ) - but now as I close in on 1,000, it’s the only run in this shoe I wish I had done. Three cheers for the Max-R

For Christmas my youngest gave me this card and said “look Dada, it’s you.” I feel seen. Should this have been a story? Absolutely. But core memories are harder to fossilize at my age. Ben with wrinkles and a bit more gray.

SATX inaugural Marathon, Half and 5k. The Stride and Shine crew took it to the streets and let it fly. Carried the boats to the river walk, got in them, and paddled to some post race carbs .
The Running Event. Something so cool you can just say TRE like a real rockstar. This marks number 1 for me despite being only an hour away in Austin for many years.
I decided to step into my Content Creator era instead of publishing a 7 min video on YouTube once a week.

Mizuno is not just a responsive ride but a responsive company. I had the honor of being included in Mizuno’s Accelerator event pre TRE - to test and preview shoes slated for 2026 and 2027. The next sentence is the most important sentence of this post, in fact, it’s so important that I wrote this sentence to call attention to it . Do not sleep on Mizuno. That’s low HRV energy. Your watch will give you a terrible sleep score.
Mizuno is about burst into 2026 with an explosive speed silo and continue the innovation through the rest of the line up. Over the last two years, I have found myself reaching for Mizuno shoes over and over. I thought it was perhaps the Smooth Speed Assist geometry catering to my midfoot landing. I’ve made shoe review videos on another platform using way too many words, similar to this post.
But if I had to sum up all of Mizuno shoes across the board in one word - it would be SMOOTH.
Daily trainer to speed day: SMOOTH
That was the second most important sentence and you can tell because I just told you in this sentence .
Thank you to @mizunorunningusa and all those involved for including me in your evolution.
