🦒🦆🐎🐄🐻🦌🐦⬛🦜🐅🐈
Starting from the spine, the very pillar of life, issue 4 of te magazine focuses on nonhuman animals to explore the manipulation of their bodies alongside themes of perception and empathy. This fourth issue does not offer answers; instead, it comprises reflections and imaginations, as most contributors have long-standing experiences with or ongoing research on animals. Through observation, education, painting, writing, and image-making, they seek to loosen the existing “ethical relationships” and “orderly rules.” Is it possible to envision a relatively equal multispecies world? Can we relearn how to coexist with “the other” through a more humble and introspective lens? Issue 4 offers no definitive answers; instead, it invites readers to inhabit the bodies of others, to feel and acknowledge them. A slow exchange occurs that reopens our imagination and generates a relationship that has yet to be named.
𓇻 Featuring 10 contributions across disciplines.

The two solo exhibitions I curated for the discovery award 2024, presented by @jimei_arles photo festival
Angelus Novus revisits @kanthypeng ‘s own experience of being immobilized by depression through a series of photographs. She likens her depressed body to a device receiving signals from the future. These eerily calm images often suggest impending upheaval and destruction. Through these deeply personal works, Kanthy connects individual experiences with a broader societal context, creating a new language that is both tender and intimate yet sharply poignant.
How to (Un)name a Tree originates from @andongzheng ‘s research into a historical naming dispute concerning three closely related species in botanical taxonomy. The works in the exhibition all came from his multiple field research trips, including his video footages and reference materials. The artist created a series of sensory-oriented works through collages of his large-format photography, salt printing process with seawater, and 16mm film. The geographical backgrounds of the pine trees in the photographs are intentionally blurred, making it difficult for viewers to pinpoint their exact locations. The artist attempts to construct a reflexive multiplicity of visions in the exhibition, which is also an attempt at re-contextualizing the Linnaean classification.
Thanks for these two talented artists and the amazing staff from @threeshadows_official
Exhibition will continue until the 12th of January, come to Xiamen, experience it with the ocean wind.
