Filming Birmingham opera as part of 6 camera coverage with 3 x FR7 and 3 x FX9.
There are 3 stages around the audience so we are using the Sony FR7 as coverage whilst we film handheld with the FX9 amongst the audience!

Boxes aren’t exciting!
BUT
This pair of stage boxes for 3 PTZ Cameras with POE++ 90 watt will save a lot of time and therefore budget! So these aren’t to bad.
What I’ve built is two stage boxes and my son 3D printed the 1U rack that holds the 3 x Blackmagic optical converters and also the extra wings for the ST fiber barrels meaning I’m able to use 2U rack cases and not 3U rack cases saving space & weight.
The idea is that you put one of these boxes near your main cameras and then run only 1 fiber cable from that location to where you’re operating the cameras from! I have a 200 metre fiber cable but you can run upto 10km!!!
As it’s its only running one cable it’s saving loads of time in rigging and also the network switches run power over Ethernet ++ (POE++) at 90 watts meaning that the Sony FR7 PTZ cameras can be powered without the need to have mains power at the camera! So hopefully saving loads of time and money when rigging and de rigging!
That’s pretty exciting! :-)

It’s been a busy day setting up my FR7 and AM7 PTZ cameras ip addresses range to fit in with a large 17 camera concert on Saturday. I’m also going to use an FX6 on a gimbal controlled over ethernet.
Now they’re all in the same ip range the should just be plug and play with the productions Portable Production system!
Well that’s the plan!! ;-)

After more than 35 years working as a freelance Director of Photography, I still genuinely enjoy what I do every day.

Quite a lighting set up today for a conversation on the sofa between two people. I wanted an upstage key to give it more of dramtic feel. So we have boomed out a F22 & also 2 x 300c lamps with light banks and for a fill I’ve used another 300c in a Selens soft bounce which is like a book light.
At the back of the room there are 2 x 600d with 1/4CTO and there are 2 x 200x with fresnals for accents on the background as well!
Filming with 2 x Sony FX9 and a Sony FX6 using G master glass andpro mist filters. It’s a very flattering look and at the same time there’s shape thanks to the up stage keys and boom arms!
