Still one of my all-time favourite shoots with Gresham Blake—not just because I got to tell Gresham to get in the pool in a suit (though that was a highlight).
But working with the legend Ray Winstone? I love the tension, the cinematic feel... like you’ve just walked into the final scene of a British gangster film.
Big love to Gresham—Brighton’s sharpest tailor and always up for pushing the limits.

End of Mayoralty Celebration!
To mark the end of my mayoral year, I hosted a reception in the Council Chamber at Brighton Town Hall – the heart of our city’s civic history.
Reflecting on my journey growing up working class, coming to education later in life, raising four children, and experiencing homelessness and domestic abuse – I was struck by how different my path has been from that of past mayors. In the Ante Room hangs a portrait of Colonel John Fawcett, our first Mayor in 1854, and I often wonder what he and others would make of who now wears the mayoral chains.
As a historian, I wanted to capture that journey by standing beside his portrait bringing past and present together to mark my year in office.
What began as a simple idea became a special collaboration with @greshamblake who created a bespoke suit for me in the Brighton & Hove tartan – a celebration of our city’s creativity and local talent. Gresham kindly shared how he was inspired during the 2014 Scottish Referendum to create a tartan that reflects our city from the greens and blues of the sea and the magnificent South Downs to a gold stripe representing the opulence of the Royal Pavilion, and pink to celebrate our vibrant LGBTQI+ community.
My dear friend, the wonderfully talented photographer @chrisjepson captured the portrait in the Council Chamber. Chris has created something that goes far beyond a simple likeness. It tells a story: of a working-class woman, of resilience and change, and of a city that embraces difference and celebrates progress.
Being Mayor in a modern, diverse city like Brighton & Hove is about inclusion and representation. I hope this portrait reflects a mayoralty that feels open, accessible, and rooted in lived experience. I hope this portrait is seen more than an image. That it captures a moment in time – our identity as a city, and who we are becoming.
I am deeply grateful to Gresham and Fal Blake, their brilliant team, Chris, and the colleagues and friends who supported me throughout this journey.

Sally and Jamie were longing to use the beautiful grounds of @cottesmorecountryclub and we had a brief moment to run out when the rain took a break! Despite getting a little wet, which didn’t phase them at all, I caught this beautiful moment from Jamie during golden hour and it has become a firm favourite from their day! 🤩

Me and @dogspiracy_official director @major_rawls, plus a little furry friend, at the recent @nycscr’s brilliant annual gala ball in #Manhattan to help rescue dogs. In true U.S. red carpet style I’m representing #Brighton and proudly wearing full @greshamblake! Great night and full photo dump coming soon. We loved creating this bespoke pinstripe suit for the brilliant Amanda. Pinstipes are classic for a reason.

I’m in love with this story!! You can see my face at the end like “WTH?!! You did WHAT??” And this is what separates the success stories from the ‘almost was’ stories. Are you willing to put everything on the line for your story?
