April showers bring May flowers!

Come make art with us this month featuring some new and exciting classes.

Bring mom on by (or come make her a gift!) to celebrate Mother’s Day - we have the The Art of Embroidery and Applied Art History: Moms of the Art World.

The Garden is in full swing at Greenpoint and we’re excited to bring back Figure Drawing in the Garden starting May 25!

We’re also partnering with Audible this month for some programming at their new Audible Story House - a community hub and listening lounge at 260 Broadway. Head to the link in bio to add yourself to the waitlist!

Art Cafe, Pottery, Workshops happening regularly 🫶

Free Saturday? Join us in Williamsburg and build your own furniture at Build-a-Chair Workshop!

Choose between a chair, stool, bench, table, side table, tack trunk, memory box, bar stool, coffee table or even a kitchen counter. Then select your wood species and come on down. Bring a friend if you’d like (each ticket admits up to 2 people to build 1 thing together).

Beginners are encouraged, no experience is necessary! Each design has its own customizations you can make in the shop. The best part is? You can leave with it the same day.

5 years ago we toured the space.

We’d had the idea for HM in the summer of 2019, officially started it in the fall and had since lived through a global pandemic which put any real business plans on hold.

By the spring of 2021, we were excited to start making moves. We were playing around with the idea of opening our own location. We’d had a lot of success throwing Art Parties before the pandemic and while lockdowns were still a thing, something told us now was the time. People wanted to get together again and make art! But we’d never opened a location before and generally had no idea how to make it work.

My birthday is April 5th. @rett.carraway visited a print shop in Two Bridges to get me some custom HM merch for my bday. While in the area he saw @mrfongsnyc and in early May, suggested we go there to meet a friend visiting from out of town.

By then, we’d talked more seriously about opening a location and had even started to tour some spaces. When I asked him what his ideal location would be like he said, and I’ll never forget it - “it would be 2 stories, its own building, have a hand written for rent sign, and a horse head outside.”

The day we met our friend at Fongs, we happened to see 49 Market St - 2 stories, its own building, a hand written “for rent sign”, and unbelievably, there was a horse head outside.

Most of the time running a business feels impossible. Even when things are going well, you’re exhausted, broke, overworked, scared, and usually have no idea what you’re doing - at least in my experience.

But every once in a while, you get a little nod from the universe - sometimes in the shape of a horse head - that reminds you that you’re in the right path.

So anyways - maybe this is your sign to get on your hobby horse and ride 🐎

Will anyone be mad if we go back to this style of hand drawn menu?

Pro is that it’s cuter, con is that there’s less information but the team can explain in person
