So today @davesbundybar got the most amazing bottle of rum 🥃that I think I’ve ever added to my rum 🥃 collection in @davesbundybar 🫶 I saw 👀 this bottle released by @dead_reckoning_rum in collaboration with @pillars4pilgrims @cambairdvcmgfoundation_ 🫡🇦🇺 and as a “Veteran” myself, I immediately knew that I wanted one for my collection, of this Australian 🇦🇺 War Hero.

I never use the word “hero” very much, but Corporal Cameron Stewart Baird, VC, MG is that hero.

Corporal Cameron Stewart Baird, VC, MG (7 June 1981 – 22 June 2013) was a soldier in the @australianarmy who was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for Australia, the nation’s highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy. He was the 100th Australian to receive the Victoria Cross since its inception, and the first Commando to be so honoured. Baird was killed in action during a helicopter assault on a Taliban stronghold in the Ghawchak village of Uruzgan province, Afghanistan.

Summary of Valor (Victoria Cross)

For the most conspicuous acts of valour, extreme devotion to duty and ultimate self-sacrifice at Ghawchak village, Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan as a Commando Team Commander in Special Operations Task Group on Operation SLIPPER.

On 22 June 2013, Corporal Baird displayed conspicuous valour and ultimate self-sacrifice in close combat with a determined enemy. With complete disregard for his own safety, he repeatedly drew enemy fire to himself in order to allow his team to manoeuvre, and charged prepared enemy positions in the face of heavy fire.

His efforts enabled the enemy to be neutralised and kept his team safe, but ultimately cost him his life. His actions were of the highest order and in keeping with the finest traditions of the Australian Army and the Australian Defence Force.

Baird is remembered as an exemplary leader whose personal motto was “Aspire to Inspire” 🫡🇦🇺
