Did you know that neonatal kittens are the most commonly euthanized pet in shelters? Kittens that haven’t been weaned need to be fed every few hours, even throughout the night. Unfortunately, most shelters do not have overnight staff available for feedings and, without fosters to care for kittens, shelters are forced to euthanize healthy babies so they do not suffer through starvation.

With dozens of kittens arriving daily, neonate fosters are needed now more than ever! Babies like these desperately need fosters so that they have the chance to grow and thrive.

If you want to help these babies but don’t know how, you can attend MDAS’s free Kitten College class for hands-on learning and instruction on neonatal kitten care!

Don’t think you’re up for the nightly feedings? Our foster coordinators can pair you with older kittens learning to eat solids! These babies don’t need to be fed as often as youngerkittens do and they don’t need to be stimulated to potty, but they still need support to make sure they’re learning to eat well and gaining weight through the transition.
