Introducing Rund Alarabi (b. 1993, َQatar)
Resident Artist – Suakin-Jeddah Research Project
Rund Alarabi, a Sudanese artist and translator living between Frankfurt and Khartoum, explores the interplay of language, pictorial traditions, and cultural memory. Her work investigates the semiotics of collective memory and how it shapes our spatial and linguistic habits.
Throughout her residency, Rund examines the parallels between Jeddah and Suakin, the coastal city in Northern Sudan, by looking at their material and immaterial ties. Using the Red Sea as a portal and starting point to peer into their shared urban and architectural matter, coral ruins, and the spirits that inhabited both port cities.
